ARCTIVITIES

Description

Arctivities is an operational service to characterize the risk indicators indices related to the safety of activities at sea (transport, fishing, aquaculture, renewable energies) as well as ' their environmental impact’ on biodiversity in terms of noise pollution.
Arctivities is a coastal downstream service related to: 

  • Fishing and aquaculture
  • Implementation of the Maritime Spatial Planning Directive
  • Implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive
  • Adaptation to the impacts of climate change through the monitoring of the coastal marine environment
  • Maritime safety (navigation, tourism, offshore infrastructures, etc.)

Arctivities will provide environmental assessment in terms of sea state, ice and noise through dedicated indicators of risks.

Copernicus Marine Service integration into wave/ice/noise modelling systems

ARCTIVITIES is based on two operational systems provided information on a unique interface :

  • Quonops, implemented by Quiet-Oceans, computing an estimate of spatio-temporal distribution of anthropic noise levels
  • NOVELTIS downscaling model for waves
These systems are fed and combined with Copernicus Marine Service products to compute indicators at two levels :
  • Statistical indicators providing wave, ice, temperature … information required for Maritime spatial planning
  • Near real-time indicators giving access to live information about the Arctic environment

About the service

The operational service data is updated once daily according to the forecasting models updates (6 hours for GFS and 24h for CMEMS) . User can register for free via the Arctivities website and provide the personal information required to use the service. Once the account is created, it can access all available settings.
